Thoughts from the Presbytery – 12 August

It is just two weeks until we celebrate 180 years as a parish.  Please finalize bookings for the dinner and concert as soon as possible.  The only Mass in the Yass Valley will be the 10am Sunday 26th August, in the Lovat Chapel.  There will be a 6pm Vigil Mass at Gunning on the 25th August.

Michael Green has been confirmed as the new principal of Mount Carmel School.  Our prayers and support are with him as he begins this important role as leader in the school community.  Mount Carmel School would be one of the oldest in the country, having started 173 years ago, as a lay run school for thirty years, before the arrival of the Mercy Sisters.

Next Wednesday is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Mary’s assumption shows us our own destiny as God’s adoptive children and members of the body of Christ.  Mass will be held at 9:45am and 5:30pm in St. Augustine’s.

Our present website won’t have backup in the next two months.  Paul Trezise has spent many hours designing a new website and will need PPC members, groups etc. to send him a brief summary of your area of responsibility or what you offer parishioners.  We intend compiling an email listing for all interested parishioners in Gunning, Murrumbateman and Yass, completely secure with the ability to unsubscribe at any time.

We need to know within the next three weeks if there are any adults interested in learning about the Catholic faith, with a view to organizing R.C.I.A.  Please let Sr. Aileen or myself know as soon as possible.

There was great excitement at our clinic this past week as they now have water from a spring.
