Thoughts from the presbytery – 5 July

This Sunday is observed as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday and the theme for 2019 is “Peace to this house and all who dwell within”.  Our communities acknowledge the Traditional Custodians who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years.  We acknowledge the continued deep spiritual attachment and relationship of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to this country and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.

The International Year of Indigenous Languages is a United Nations observance in 2019 that aims to raise awareness of the consequences of the endangerment of Indigenous languages across the world, with an aim to establish a link between language, development, peace and reconciliation.  Australia’s First People consist of over 250 different language groups.  Each group is distinct from one another in rituals, sacred knowledge and belief systems.

As a community, let us acknowledge injustices of the past and pray for a future of genuine reconciliation.

Catechists and supporters are invited to attend a thanksgiving service, to be held at the Uniting Church hall on Sunday, 21st July at 3pm.  The service will be a time of worship, giving thanks and prayer for all the SRE ministry in Yass.  It will also be a time to gather support for Jess’ role as SRE teacher at Yass High School.

St. Augustine’s Finance Committee will meet in the next Wednesday, 10th July at 6:30pm at the presbytery.  If you have issues you would like discussed, please speak with a member.
