During the rite of baptism, parents and godparents are reminded of their responsibility to the child for the ongoing nurturing of faith. After baptism, the next step for the child is to engage in preparation for their first Holy Communion. Registrations took place this past week and nineteen were presented to continue the faith journey. We no longer spend hours chasing up the parents of those children who are eligible, as experience has taught, it is a fruitless exercise. Let us pray for those who make a commitment this weekend, that the parents and children may grow in their love of God and all people.
It was wonderful to see many parishioners begin Lent by attending Mass on Ash Wednesday. May this time bring many blessings to families and our parish communities, as we pray, fast and reach out to the poorest of the poor.
