Thoughts from the presbytery – 6 September

We welcome to our community Archbishop Christopher Prowse who will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend for younger parishioners from both Yass and Gunning parishes.  Our communities should be grateful to the members of our Sacramental Teams, who give of their time and talents to support parents, as these confirmandi prepare for this great moment in their faith journey.  We also acknowledge the young adults who mentor these young people on their retreat day.

Last weekend was very special as we were given the opportunity to hear Kevin Dunn, thanks to Lara Kirk, who challenged us to look seriously at the issue of euthanasia and the laws being introduced in our country.  If you are interested in borrowing a DVD produced by Kevin Dunn, there is one at the parish office and Steve Scroope has a copy.

The ‘pot luck’ meal on the Saturday evening was enjoyed by those who attended.  Many thanks to Lourdes and all who prepared the food.

Jose da Costa has requested we employ another person for our clinics in Oecusse.  Besides a further salary, we would need to purchase another motor bike.  Yass/Gunning Belun will discuss if this is financially possible, as the low Australian dollar is a problem for us.  We have also been asked by the blind to pay for a website for their organisation.
